BNP has issued a statement criticizing the statement made by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Maria Zakharova, regarding Bangladesh. The party said, such statements have hurt the sentiments of the democracy-loving people of Bangladesh.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi gave this response on behalf of the party in a statement sent to the media on Saturday.
On November 22, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said in a message on her social media X (Twitter) account that the United States Ambassador to Bangladesh, Peter Haas, has planned with the opposition to organize an anti-government rally. Maria Zakharova also alleged that the US ambassador is interfering in the internal politics of Bangladesh. His message is the verified Facebook of the Russian Embassy in Dhaka
In a statement criticizing Maria Zakharova's speech, BNP leader Ruhul Kabir said, "The statement of the Russian spokesperson contradicts the desire and position of the people of Bangladesh for a transparent and participatory election."
Ruhul Kabir said in the statement that the Russian spokesperson's statement about the US ambassador was false and misinterpreted, "Through the farcical elections of 2014 and 2018, the Awami League has taken away the people's right to vote and created a tainted history in the national and international arena." No participatory and acceptable election is possible in Bangladesh by keeping the government in power under the leadership of the current Prime Minister.
