Sourav questions Kohli-fans' 'English knowledge'

A tweet by Sourav Ganguly created a storm of controversy on social media. Virat Kohli's fans raised the storm. Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore were eliminated from the IPL after losing to Gujarat Titans on Sunday. Kohli's seventh century in that match saw Bengaluru score 198, which Shubman Gill's counter-century saw Gujarat overtake in 19.1 overs.

Sourav praised the century by mentioning Gill's name in a tweet after the match. The tweet read – 'What a talent this country has produced...Shubman Gill...wow...two great centuries in two halves...IPL...what an amazing quality of competition!

Kohli also scored a century before Gill, but Kohli-fans expressed anger that his name was omitted. Many people are confused about this. Before the Bengaluru-Gujarat match on that day, Mumbai-Hyderabad faced each other. In that match, Cameron Green's century saw Mumbai Indians overtake Sunrisers Hyderabad's 201-run collection. As Sourav mentioned 'two centuries' in the tweet, Kohli-fans think that the former Indian captain only talked about the centuries of Gill and Green, and avoided Kohli's.

Kohli-fans raised the question, but did Sourav rekindle his feud with Kohli with such a tweet? The controversy reached such a level that Sourav had to explain the previous tweet by another tweet. There is also a hint of anger in the explanation. Saurabh wrote, 'Let me remind everyone of one thing. Those who are misinterpreting my tweet understand English, I hope. If you don't understand, then please give someone the responsibility to explain the meaning.'

Sourav wanted to make it clear that he did not exclude Kohli while praising Shubman Gill. 'Two halves' did not mean two different matches, but two innings of the same match, in one of which Gill scored a century in the other.

Kohli's trouble with Sourav started when he was BCCI president. The trouble came to a head after the Delhi Capitals-Royal Challengers Bangalore match on April 15. Sourav did not shake hands with Kohli after that match. Kohli then unfollowed him on Instagram. Sourav responded by unfollowing Kohli.

However, after the Delhi-Bengaluru match on May 6, Sourav joined hands with Kohli and gave a glimpse of calming down the situation. However, the relationship between the two was again discussed by the fans.
