Taskin Ahmed has been struggling with injuries since last March. He also returned to bowling after the rehabilitation process. Recently, he is one of the biggest strengths of Bangladesh in pace bowling, and naturally there is talk about Taskin's injury as it is the year of the World Cup. However, the 28-year-old pacer says that it is not possible for him to 'save the game'.
In the 2019 World Cup, he did not get a place in the team due to an injury. This is another World Cup, but this time too he is struggling with injuries. Taskin, who last played a recognized cricket match against Ireland in March, was addressing reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur today.
Asked if there was any extra precaution against injury during the World Cup year, Taskin said, "Being out of the team because of injury is never pleasant. Feels bad as a cricketer. When I was eliminated in the 2019 World Cup, that moment was very sad for me. But now I understand that what God does is for good. Then there was a slight change in his work-ethic, process. Which is very important for me as a cricketer. Now by the grace of Allah I am in a very good process. There is a confidence that I am giving my hundred percent in this field. So I hope something good will happen.
But then he added, 'Another thing is that it is not possible for me to play with my body. When you play with the ball in hand, you don't think about how to play safely. And I am a fast bowler. Playing for the red and green is a matter of great pride. Not only that, cricket is actually…. So when you go to play, you don't have a big event coming up. I always pray that God keeps me healthy.
Taskin has had four sessions since returning to bowling, gradually increasing the workload. For now, he hopes to return to the national team by visiting Afghanistan. Regarding playing in this series starting next month, he said, 'If God wants. Now let's see what happens.
Due to injury, he missed the three-match ODI series against the same opposition in England after the only Test at home against Ireland. Bangladesh's ever-improving pace attack, however, did not let Taskin's absence be understood that way. Bangladesh's pace attack will be the best in the world, Taskin said again about that dream, 'This unit has been working together for 2-3 years. Now a little more than before. We all want this pace unit to be the best in the world and it has the potential.
World Cup in India, where many venues will have batting-assisted wickets. As a result, the bigger challenge ahead for the pacers, Taskin reminded, is that 'all pace bowlers want to do well.' A lot of challenging games are coming up. Conditions will not be so easy. Batting – Assist or Sporting will be. Whether a fast bowler or a spinner, everyone will have a lot of challenges. I think we have to prepare ourselves better for that.
However, if we can do well in such conditions, our self-confidence will increase, Taskin also sees the positive side, 'If we can move forward with less fear of losing, it will be good for us. Any bowler or cricketer can have a bad day or two. It will go. But I believe, if we can implement the maximum of our best rhythm, it is possible to do well even in that condition. Definitely challenging, but we will take that challenge inshallah.'
