The end of all speculation. US IT giant Facebook has announced a change of corporate name. Facebook will now be known as 'Meta'. And apps like social networking platforms Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp will remain under the same name under the meter.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement on Thursday (October 28th) at the company's annual hardware event, Connect. At the annual event, the company usually talks about products such as portal video devices and Oculus headsets.
Regarding the name change, he said, "From now on, the main identity is no longer Facebook, our first identity is going to be Metavers." At the moment our brand is so deeply connected to a product that it probably can’t represent what we’re doing anymore.
Zuckerberg said he has always loved reading classics. The word ‘meta’ comes from the Greek word ‘beyond’ (infinity). Personally, the reason he chose the word is that there is much more to be made. We also have a lot of new paths left to walk, this naming is from that idea.
Facebook started its journey on February 4, 2004. Since then, the technology company has gradually expanded its reach through Mark Zuckerberg. Other platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, Oculus are also being added in the shadow of Facebook Inc.
From now on this company will be known as 'Meta Corporation'.
Recently, Facebook has been criticized for various issues, including the lack of security for its users. The technology company fell into an image crisis when some former employees leaked various internal data. In this context, the Facebook authorities changed the name for the new branding.
